I deeply appreciate these insights.

In academia there’s a concept we use that gets to your final point (and night even broaden it slightly): construct validity. In short, high construct validity means the thing you ask, and the thing you care about, are closely related.

It’s part of the reason why I do t take much credence in Likert scales (like the Net Promoter Score), because people rarely ask, or care, about what those numbers truly mean.

I love asking that question for all my data: ‘is there construct validity?
